Why did they stop producing the Chevrolet Monte Carlo?

I heard they stopped producing the chevrolet monte carlo last year. I have a 2003 Monte Carlo LS. Does anyone know why they stopped production? Was it poor sales?

What the Ford guy means is Nascar replaced the Monte Carlo with the Impala. This is because they both were built on the same platform on the same assembly plant and GM was cutting back on the models produced because they were not sure they would continue that model line. Both are built in Oshawa Ont. and else where.
The end of production was Jun 19 2007 ,
SS’s Aug. 2007 , They are still making Impala’s

they kept that same body style for 7 years a i believe and it was growing old it is a nice body style but after so long its time to let it go. I am sure a all new MC will come out but it will be hard to beat the last body style it was one of the best.

From what I understand from a friend who is a Chevrolet dealer is that it was poor sales that killed the Monte Carlo. Though since the car was only slightly revised in 2005 and with higher gas prices and the price of the Monte Carlo was high and the competition (Ford Mustang), has more options and better pricing, it was a matter of time.
Also despite other GM models getting more horsepower the Monte Carlo didn’t. The entry level engine was the 180 horse engine, followed by the 200 horsepower (3800 Series II), and then the supercharged 240 horsepower engine. The Pontiac Grand Prix GTP was supercharged and had 265 horses and the GTO (6.0 liter), was near 400, people who wanted power went elsewhere.
