I want to buy a honda prelude but it has had an engine swap. Is there any way of knowing the year of an engine from the serial number?

yes, the year the engine was made, the month and the day and even the shift it was made on should be stamped on the block someplace.

yes with the engine serial number you can get the year of the engine. the model it came out of. you can get a list of parts that are used in the engine for oem parts them from there you get aftermarket parts. if the engine is an h22 go for it and buy it i highly recommend it.
