My ford truck backfires everytime I try to start it but wont start?
Aaron D
It quit on me the other day while I was driving, I know its not the alternator or the starter. I changed the solenoid thinking it may be that, but my truck still isn’t starting. It turns over but it backfires and just wont turn on. can someone tell me waht it may be?

Your Ford could have a timing problem. If it is really old as in before electronic ignition, it could be the points have slipped but, I’ll bet it is the timing. One of my Fords did exactly the same thing. It required a new timing chain. Newer models may have timing belts.

if it just quit while you were driving it sounds like a problem ive seen many times. pull the distributor cap off and have someone crank the engine…watch to make sure your rotor is spinning smoothly. if not you broke the shear pin that holds the drive gear in place on the bottom of your distrib shaft.it can be relaced for next to nothing(ive even used a big nail trimmed to fit and flattened on the ends) then you have to reset your timing .MARK THE DISTRIB BEFORE REMOVAL!!!white paint stick to mark possition it is in now to put it backin same spot .then all you have to do is get motor to TDC and set rotor to 1st plug in cap when dropping back in.

Sounds like the timing is off or the firing order isn’t correct.
