Is the Pontiac G6 GTP considered a “sports car” as far as insurance companies are concerned?
VDJ44
In other words, is the insurance more expensive than just a Pontiac G6?

I wouldn’t be too sure about that. Don’t make any assumptions until you’ve actually checked it out.
I bought a Grand Am SE a few years ago and one of the factors that played into me getting the SE as opposed to the GT was that I thought I’d have to pay higher insurance for the GT. I don’t believe that was accurate now and I wish I would’ve done more homework on that.
Instead of worrying about the letters behind the car’s model name I would be worrying about your (years of) driving experience, your driving record and your age. Those will be the primary factors in your car insurance rate.

it has a higher out put engine, performance suspension, and is billed as a sports sedan/coupe depending. SO yea preaty much. i test drove a GT model with the 3.5L engine and it was plenty power full, got pulled over during the test drive. the GTP isnt worth it unless you want a DOHC V6 with worse milage.

I have the GTP and my insurance did not go up, it actually went down. I drove a Grand Prix before if that helps any.
