I was stopped about 3 years ago for having my cargo light on . This light comes on when you turn on your interior light. The supreme court of Louisiana says this light is illegal to turn on on the highway. I was stopped a few months ago by a Louisiana state trooper and was ordered of of my 2000 ford truck. I would not open my door because my cargo light comes on automatly when I open the door. I was charged with rezesting a state trooper Am I guilty because I would not open the door of my truck ? I did get out of my truck after the trooper opened the door.

You are guilty of resisting an officer because you failed to obey his lawful command. And the charge is a criminal one, nto a traffic one, so it is alot more serious.

I would assume that the law refers to operation of the vehicle on the highway, not just being on the highway, so when the trooper pulled you over and asked you to get out, that effectively would end your operation of the vehicle; which would in fact not make it a crime to have your interior light on.

Rear facing lights on a vehicle must be red. Cargo lights are white. As far as getting out after the trooper opened the door… TOO LATE. You were coming out of the truck at that point either out the door or out the window.
