I own a older Buick and wanted to upgrade the alternator. How large of an alternator should I upgrade to?

My Buick is a 1985, what is a safe amperage of alternator should I upgrade to? And yes I am running a stereo system. A 1500 watt Autotek MM and four twelves.

Got your alternator right here Buddy!!!
oh, and add a second battery, use an isolator and throw it in the trunk. Much better performance than a bunch of capacitors in your system.

Put on as big an alternator as the space and mounting bracket will allow. The bigger the alternator the bigger load it can handle. It should also last longer

a 180 to a 200 amp one wire gm alternator should be plenty for it,that will also supply enough to run the air and anything else that the car needs, good luck on it.

Run a 190 amperage alternator. If you want, run 2 batteries and an isolator so the main battery won’t be dead and your stereo is running off the secondary batter.

as big of one that will fit the brackets…. it will only supply what the system calls for.. look for one from a cadilac limo or a gm based ambulance etc..

Take your alternator to a alternator shop that rebuilds them and ask the rebuilder what he thinks you need, I have had them rebuilt from an 80amp to a 125amp. The 125amp should work fine for you unless your amp has already drained your battery once and you have fried your alternator a few times already. You may need a bigger battery and alternator, or less amp.
